WHO: Where Small Acts Create Life-Changing Moments

You'll Witness Transformation Through Simple Kindness

Behind every statistic is a human story. The transgender guest who lived in their car for two and a half years, afraid to seek shelter, found not just safety at WHO but complete acceptance. Volunteers and Share staff collaborated to create a welcoming environment that made staying possible, while Share staff provided professional housing navigation, leading to permanent housing and employment.

This is what you'll be part of:

  • Creating moments when someone feels truly seen and valued for the first time in months

  • Working alongside people from different faith traditions who share your commitment to human dignity

  • Being present when professional advocacy and volunteer hospitality combine to help someone transition from homelessness to housing

Your Role in Real Success Stories

When volunteers threw a spontaneous birthday party for a guest - complete with cake and decorations - she said she'd never felt so loved in all her life. These aren't programmed activities; they're genuine responses from volunteers who see each guest as worthy of celebration.

The Garner Family demonstrates this perfectly: their annual Christmas stocking delivery and Santa's surprise visit create memories that children carry long after they've moved into permanent housing. These moments of joy happen because volunteers choose to see beyond someone's current circumstances to their inherent dignity.

You'll Join a Community That Changes Lives

Last season's results speak to the power of combining volunteer hospitality with professional support: 92% of guests achieved positive housing outcomes. This happens because:

  • Volunteers create stability that allows guests to focus on housing search rather than daily survival

  • Share staff provide expertise while volunteers provide encouragement and relationship

  • Interfaith collaboration the act of welcoming a stranger creates immediate common ground

  • Consistent presence helps guests rebuild trust in community support

The Need Is Real, The Impact Is Immediate

Every night, you'll know that your presence mattered. One guest wrote: "Each one of them supported me in a different way, but they stayed in contact with each other so that they all knew what was being done. They never pushed me to do anything I didn't want to do or wasn't ready to do."

This is hospitality that honors human agency while providing concrete support. This is a community that welcomes without judgment. This is a partnership that achieves lasting change.

Your Next Step Matters

Homelessness in Clark County increased 12% this year. But WHO @ St. Andrew proves that when volunteers and professionals work together, when interfaith communities unite in service, when small acts of kindness combine with expert advocacy, transformation happens.

Love on a Plate: Holy Redeemer's Valentine's Surprise

Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, led by WHO Representative Ed Brands, hosted a delightful surprise Valentine's dinner. Guests raved about Chef Ed's menu: steak, salmon, baked potatoes with fixings, salad, and cheesecake. Dedicated volunteers transformed the space, setting each place and serving with smiles. Ed's care extended to ensuring all volunteers and Share staff enjoyed a meal. Holy Redeemer and Ed continue their wonderful support of WHO with infectious generosity and grace.
