May 9 (Saturday) — WHO@SALC Jigsaw Puzzle Competition — Doors at 1:30 pm, competition at 2:00 pm. Teams of up to 4 ($40/person). All proceeds support Winter Hospitality Overflow. Email jetnsue@gmail.com or call 360-892-7160.
May 10 & 17 (Sundays) — Trike-a-Thon Voting — In-person voting for Luther's Three Solas teams to support the preschool fundraiser. Also available online at salcvan.org/trikes. Last chance May 17; winner announced in the Summer Newsletter.
May 15 (Friday) — JOY! Club — 6:30–8 pm at 1511 SE 121st Ave, Vancouver. Hosts Christine & Steve Kramer. RSVP to spkramer@comcast.net.
May 16 (Saturday) — Lights of Love Parade (Augustana Lutheran Church) — Meet at Augustana Lutheran at 3 pm, parade to Irving Park. Glow sticks provided; costumes and bubbles encouraged.
May 17 (Sunday) — Book Club — CHANGE OF DATE. 7 pm. Reading: Hope for Cynics by Jamil Zaki.
May 18 (Monday) — Mid-Year Budget Update — 7 pm on Zoom. Budget wellness update and discussion.
May 19 & 20 (Tuesday/Wednesday) — Trike-a-Thon Laps — Preschoolers race their trikes. Congregation supports with votes/donations.
May 22 (Friday) — Ridwell Sign-Up Deadline — Sign up via get.ridwell.com/sanp to help SALC earn free plastic film pickup for a year. Need 5 more households.
May 24 (Sunday) — Summer Worship Schedule Begins — One service at 10 am on Sundays, running through September 6, 2026.
May 26 (Tuesday) — Pub Theology — 6 pm at Ghost Runner Brewing on Minnehaha. Topic TBD.
May 30 (Saturday) — Synod Educational Gathering — 10 am–3 pm at Messiah Lutheran Church, 905 NW 94th St, Vancouver. Theme: Stewardship: Funding Ministry for Today and the Future. Let the office know if you plan to attend.
May 31 (Sunday) — Big Celebration Sunday — Bishop Keith Marshall presides at 10 am worship. Adam Barton's Confirmation. Volunteer appreciation. Potluck to send Pastor Cindy off on sabbatical. Bring a dish to share!
May 31 (Sunday) — Interfaith Prayer Gathering — 2–3 pm, hosted at St. Andrew. Theme: Sacred Connections: Unity, Trust, and Shared Hope. Cloth labyrinth walk available in gym. Refreshments and fellowship follow. All are welcome.
📣 Announcements
Pastor Cindy's Sabbatical — Pastor Cindy begins her sabbatical after May 31. She returns to the office September 8; first Sunday back is September 13. During her absence: contact Amy McCann (office hours) or lay leader Helene Pihl (urgent after-hours needs). Prayer Chain requests go to officemanager@salcvan.org.
Summer Worship — One service at 10 am Sundays, May 24 through September 6. Beginning June 28, worship will be held in the round as part of the "Dinner with Jesus" summer sermon series (through August 30).
Children, Youth & Family Ministry Hiring — The position has been reframed as a Coordinator (rather than Director). One finalist has been invited to formally interview in early May. If hired, the coordinator starts in September.
Trike-a-Thon Fundraiser — The preschool's only fundraiser this year supports their first bilingual classroom launching this fall. Vote online or in person May 10 & 17.
VBS — St. Andrew won't host VBS this summer due to bathroom renovations. Nearby options: Trinity Lutheran (June 22–26), Family of Christ Lutheran (June 22–26, 9 am–noon), Messiah Lutheran (July 13–17).
Music Sunday — June 14 is Music Sunday and the last day of the 2025–26 music program year. The 2026–27 season begins September 16. Contact musicdirector@salcvan.org to participate.
Ridwell Plastic Drive Results — 20 large garbage bags of plastic film collected March 9–April 22. 5 households still needed by May 22 to earn free pickup service for the year.
Code of Conduct Update — Task force will revise the document based on congregational forum feedback. Members invited to "wordsmith" the document over summer and fall. Values exploration coming over summer.
Research Invitation — Dr. Arianna Molloy of Biola University is looking for adults 55+ in a "post-primary" season of life for a study on calling and meaningful work. Contact arianna.molloy@biola.edu.
Coffee Hour Help Needed — Volunteers needed to host Sunday coffee hour. Contact the church office (360-892-7160) or Carol Burbridge.
Food Pantry Volunteers Needed — Every Wednesday, 1–3 pm. Looking for both monthly regulars and summer fill-ins. Contact Kathy Hauge.
