Preschool Policy

Absences and Illness

The school cannot deduct for any absences caused by vacations, colds or other illness. For the health of all children please do not send your child to school if they exhibit the following symptoms:
  • watery eyes
  • deep cough
  • inflamed nostrils
  • heavy nasal discharge
  • high fever
  • rash
  • contagious diseases
  • head lice
Please call or e-mail the school if your child will be absent. Children should remain home 24 hours after a fever has subsided. In the event of head lice, please notify the school so that we may take the proper precautions in the classroom. This information will remain confidential.

Accident and Emergency Procedure

An emergency injury or illness that occurs during school hours will be reported to you immediately. Please make sure we have all emergency forms and phone numbers. As part of our Emergency Plan, we ask for the phone number of an emergency contact who lives at least 100 miles away.

Clothing

Play clothes that encourage self-help are the best. We do many fun but messy art activities. Remember coats for outdoor activity on cool days as the children play outdoors every day except in rain and extreme cold. We recommend athletic type shoes with rubber soles rather than sandals, shoes with hard soles, or plastic shoes for the playground. Please mark clothing and belongings to avoid loss. We require a backpack large enough for your child’s coat, and a bicycle helmet for the playground, clearly marked with your child’s name.

Toileting

Preschool students in the 3-4’s and 4-5’s classes must be completely toilet trained and independent of the teachers for assistance in personal hygiene.

Communication

We want communication to be two-way. A monthly calendar, newsletter and bulletin boards will keep you informed of all planned preschool activities. “Prayer Requests, Concerns & Questions” forms and boxes are located in preschool office. Please feel free to contact your teachers or director with any joys or concerns about your child.

Arrival

As our teachers will be busy preparing for the daily activities; children will not be allowed in the classrooms prior to class.

Departure

Please be prompt in picking up your children after class. It can be distressing for children whose parents arrive late. Teachers have very limited time between classes for lunch and preparation for the next class. Morning classes end at 11:30 AM. Afternoon classes end at 2:45 PM. Except in emergency situations, an extra charge of $5.00 for every five minutes you are late may be imposed. Please feel free to visit with other parents in the reception area after class.

Sign In and Out

Please escort your child into the building and sign in. You will also need to sign out at the end of class. A written note will be required from you any day someone else will be picking up your child. The teachers cannot release your child to a stranger.

Discipline

We approach discipline in a very positive way. We first try a variety of positive guidance techniques such as redirection of the child to another activity. If we are unsuccessful in preventing inappropriate behavior, a short regrouping time may be necessary.

Continued Enrollment

We strive to serve the needs of most preschool children. However, if a child has special needs we are unable to serve, we may recommend an alternative program to you for your child.

Tuition and Payment Procedure

Tuition is calculated on a yearly figure and divided into nine equal payments for your convenience. This means that holidays, inservice days, and vacations (fall, winter and spring) do not change the monthly tuition rate.

Tuition is received using electronic funds transfer (EFT) with the Simply Giving® program. There is no cost to you to participate in this program. A late charge of $10.00 per month applies to late payments.

If any circumstances prevent continued enrollment, notice must be given to the director by the fifteenth of the month prior to withdrawal or the next month’s tuition will be invoiced. Current tuition rates are listed on the registration form. There is a $15.00 discount for the monthly tuition on the enrollment of two children.

Field Trips

Parents are responsible for transporting and supervising their children on field trips. Teachers must be available to all students in their class. Teachers will notify you of the place, date and time to meet. In most cases, there will be no classroom time on the day of a field trip for the participating class. Siblings are welcome to join us for field trips.

Food

We prefer that your children do not bring food or candy to school. No gum will be allowed in the classrooms. Please have your children eat meals before or after school away from the classroom. A good meal before school is essential for learning.

Peanut Products

We have students with severe peanut allergies. Because of this extreme danger, the preschool is a peanut-free zone. This means that nothing made with peanut products can be brought to school. Please check labels. Many foods are processed using the same equipment as those containing peanuts, and this must be stated on the label. Peanut allergies are deadly, please take this seriously!

Birthdays

We enjoy celebrating birthdays with your child. Our absolutely favorite birthday “treat” is a book for the classroom. You can inscribe it with your child’s name and picture and even wrap it for your child to open during class. We can read the book to the class during group time. This helps us promote a love of books and literacy. We do not have children share goodie bags or food. Your birthday party at home is the perfect time for these. We recommend that invitations to birthday parties held away from preschool are mailed to student’s homes to avoid hurt feelings.

Toys

We prefer that children do not bring toys from home except on special sharing days. Playthings will be provided at school.

School Work

Your child will bring home his or her treasured creations. Please remember these works of art are important for the skills your child used in creating them. The process is more important than the end result! Some days your child may bring home no visual work on paper, but be assured that your child participated in many learning activities.

Parent Participation

We have an open door policy for parents. You are welcome any time to help or just visit. Parent volunteers will be screened with a Washington State Patrol background check. Please stop in the office to receive a visitor’s badge. Throughout the year we will be having activities and events for the entire family.

Visitors/Siblings

Parents and children interested in our program may visit the classrooms together to see first-hand the variety of opportunities for young children we offer. Unfortunately we cannot allow friends of our students to attend class sessions. Because our preschool rooms are set up for a particular age child, they are not appropriate for younger siblings. We have Kindermusik® classes available for all ages of younger siblings. When the preschool classes are not outside, younger children are welcome to use the playground area under your direct supervision.

Snow Days

All morning preschool classes will be canceled if the Evergreen School District announces a closure or late start due to inclement weather.  Listen to your radio or television for that information.  Afternoon class weather closures will be posted on the web page and phone recorder.  We make up most snow days.

Mandatory Reporting

Schools are considered mandated reporters in cases of suspected child abuse or neglect. Under Washington state law, mandated reporters who knowingly fail to make a report, or cause a report to be made, shall be guilty of a gross misdemeanor (RCW 26.44.080)

Notice of Nondiscriminatory Policy As To Students

The St. Andrew Christian Preschool welcomes students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and other school-administered programs.
