Womens' Ministry:
GIFT
A new, fellowship-based small group for women is being formed in an effort to provide a place to make new friends and strengthen old friendships. The group’s purpose is to offer support, encouragement and companionship as well as come together in prayer -- hence its name, Growing in Faith Together, or GIFT.
At least initially, the group will not be lesson-based, so no reading or homework will be required. Rather, the idea is to discuss common concerns and interests.
All women are invited to attend the first meeting, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in Room 6 at the church. The group will meet every other Thursday. Free child care will be provided. Information: Kate Davis.

The November selection is Tracy Kidder’s Mountains Beyond Mountains – The quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a man who would change the world. Dec. 14: Lord Save Us from Your Followers by Dan Merchant. Host: Mary Strehlow.
Earthkeeping Task Force
In this task focus on our relationship with God's creation. We think of ways to keep as much as possible from going into our landfills. What can be recycled when things are packaged or unwrapped? What will we do with the financial resources that we receive and use during this month? How can the choices we make be a new beginning?
Our synod Earthkeepers committee has joined with our synod's W-ELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church) board in focusing on water issues during the coming year. Check out the synod’s monthly newsletter online at www.lutheranssw.org for more info.
Monthly Grounds Work:
Our outside work days are on the same day as the men’s breakfast. Bring your garden gloves and yard tools and spend a few hours sprucing up our landscape.
Library / Book Group
Fourth Tuesdays, 7 p.m. in the Library, Room 9.
Do you love books? Do you like to read? Then this group is for you. We meet every month to support the church library. Projects include:
- processing books to add to the library
- reading books and writing brief book reviews
- reviewing new books on the market and developing book “wish lists” for the library
- publicizing the library.
To learn more about this group, call Carla Beckstrom or Jan Allen. Everyone has been generous with donations of books and our shelves are getting full. We are now asking that donations be only books published in the year 2000 or later. This will let us add timely books as they become available. Other appropriate books may be added to the bookshelves for WHO guests by the pop machine. |
